Samuel H. Baker is a visiting fellow at the Civitas Institute and an associate professor of philosophy and classics at the University of South Alabama. While he is broadly interested in ancient philosophy and its reception, he has published primarily on Aristotle's ethics, politics, and moral psychology. He is currently working on two projects: one on Aristotle's definition of the human good, and another on Aristotle's account of truth as the good of the intellect.

He is the recipient of fellowships from the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, the Loeb Classical Library Foundation at Harvard University, and the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme foundation in Paris. He received his M.Phil. in classics from the University of Cambridge and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton University in the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Philosophy.
